Update - Week of October 14th

This update started October 14th. Vern had an appointment in Toledo with Dr. Skeel, his medical oncologist. We had a long wait. Vern had made the decision with my consent to discontinue any more chemo or radiation. We informed Dr. Skeel of this and he said he would contact hospice for us. It was a short appointment, but it was then late because of the long wait. Since it was so late, it was all we (my sister-in-law and I with Amy's help) could do to help Vern get back into the house.

On October 15th, things were pretty normal until about 8:15pm. Vern had a tonic-clonic seizure, and we called 911. They took him to Fulton County Health Center, where they ran a number of tests and started him on 2 seizure meds. It was after 2 in the morning when they released him and transferred him home via a non-emergency transport. We were all exhausted the next day, plus one med gave him troublesome side effects. My sister and husband also arrived on the 16th from Virginia. Dr. Skeel's office called hospice and they came the next day, October 17th. By early afternoon, we had a hospital bed set up in the living room and plans for home health aids to come the following week.
